This illustration entitled, Uncle Sam - "Too Late My Boys. I've Already Expanded", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Post on September 14, 1899, depicts Uncle Sam resting after a large 3 course meal made up of the Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, all quickly annexed by the U.S., as members of the anti-imperialism movement led by William Jennings Bryan and Senator George Hoar show disdain after they arrive too late.
