U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Stan Williams, (right), Joint Sustainment Command – Afghanistan, places a boonie cap onto the head of newly promoted Staff Sgt. Michael Thomas, June 11 at the Kandahar Airfield Humanitarian Assistance Yard. Thomas is a native of Laurel, Miss., and is currently serving as civil affairs non-commissioned officer with the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command. Thomas, a 14-year Army veteran, is on his second deployment to Afghanistan. At home, he serves as a patrol officer with the Laurel Police Department. Thomas graduated from West Jones High School in 1997 and has been deployed to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom since early October.
