U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Omar Rojas (left) and Pfc. Gerardo DeLeon (right), both assault amphibious vehicle crewman with 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, take a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) gray belt performance evaluation while aboard the USS Somerset (LPD-25) during Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise (AECE) on Sept. 11, 2019. The purpose of MCMAP is to further develop character, mental and physical disciplines which are integral to MCMAP. Approximately 3,000 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel are participating in AECE 2019, a joint training exercise that tests expeditionary logistical capabilities in the Arctic region and prepares joint forces to respond to crises across the Indo-Pacific.
