U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Nancy Reyes of Charlotte, N.C., Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah Female Engagement Team member, begins to put on her head scarf in preparation for an all women’s shura conducted in the Shib Koh district in Farah province, Afghanistan, July 10. The women’s shura was proposed by Haidari, who invited the FET to listen to the issues and concerns of the women residing in the district. Social significance of the event highlights the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s initiative in promoting women’s rights and empowerment.
