Summary
U.S. Navy Seaman Fernando Ortizo, 3rd platoon, Field Medical Training Battalion West, provides medical attention to a simulated casualty during the casualty training assessment portion of a Field Medical Service Technician course, at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, June 19, 2018. Ortizo was given a scenario, where his simulated casualty had a gunshot wound to the chest. Ortizo had to apply direct pressure on the casualty while applying a closed dressing that helped seal the wound. The closed dressing is followed by thoracentesis, which is the removal of air or fluid in the area surrounding the lung. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Kerstin Roberts)
