U.S. sailors and airmen assigned to Task Force 43 load mission essential parts and supplies for Project Handclasp onto an Airlift Mobility Command C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to support the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) and the disaster relief efforts in Haiti after Hurricane Ike in Mayport, Fla., Sept. 10, 2008. Project Handclasp is a U.S. Navy program that accepts and transports educational, humanitarian and goodwill material donated by America's private sector aboard U.S. Navy ships for distribution to foreign nation recipients. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
