Vice president meets with BUD/S candidates
Summary
Vice President Joe Biden talks with Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) candidates on the beach at Naval Special Warfare Center during his visit to San Diego. BUD/S candidates must complete three phases of training and qualify in advanced training during a yearlong program to become Navy SEALs. Navy SEALs are maritime special operations forces who strike from the Sea, Air and Land. They operate in a small numbers, infiltrating their objective areas by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, Navy surface ships, combatant-craft and submarines. SEALs have the ability to conduct a variety of high-risk missions-unconventional warfare, direct action, special reconnaissance, combat search and rescue, diversionary attacks and precision strikes - all in a clandestine fashion.
