With a M998 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) leading, tactical vehicles of the Headquarters Battery, 35th Air Defense Artillery (ADA), Fort Lewis, Washington, begin to arrive at their desert location on the Fort Bliss, Texas, range. The 35th ADA deployed to the Fort Bliss Range and will provide Patriot Missile defense against enemy fighter strikes and simulated SCUD missile launches during ROVING SANDS 1997. ROVING SANDS is a multinational effort and is the largest military exercise on United States soil that allows training in a joint environment to hone command and control procedures and integrate new systems in Theater and Air Missile Defense
