During the Flaming Thunder live-fire exercise held at the General Silvestras Zilkaliskas training area, Pabrade, Lithuania, 35-year-old crew chief of his Paladin M109A6 artillery system nicknamed "Contaminated," Sgt. Edward Sharpe prepares to fire the 155 mm howitzer main gun. Sharpe, a native of Covington, Ga., commands a team of four. Flaming Thunder is part of a larger, joint U.S. and European operation being conducted throughout Europe called Atlantic Resolve.
