Kendra Stumpf carries an American flag as she and other runners in the 37th Marine Corps begin the first stretch of the "People's Marathon" in Arlington, Va., Oct. 28, 2012. The race started between Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon, between the country's fallen heroes and those actively protecting our nation. The 23,864 starters in the race came from across the United States and 47 countries to run in the world's ninth largest marathon. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
