Female Marines describe their bond as a sisterhood. Three females deployed to Afghanistan considered each other sisters years before they joined the Marine Corps. Corporal Francis Collado, a warehouse clerk with Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Forward), reunited with Lance Cpl. Kiara Herrera, a maintenance administration clerk with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), and Lance Cpl. Ana Nunez a food service specialist with Combat Logistic Regiment-15, 1st Marine Logistic Group (Forward), in Afghanistan. Herrera and Nunez are related by blood but consider Collado their sister too.
