Spc. Julian Batz, a cavalry scout with K Troop, 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry Regiment, eagerly anticipates the start of the 60-yard shuttle sprint event in the new Army Physical Readiness Test during the 2012 Region VII Best Warrior Competition at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., April 23. The California Army National Guard is hosting the competition to Army Guardsmen from eight states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The 2012 Region VII BWC will test competitors on the new Army Combat Readiness Test, day and night land navigation, a foot march of unknown distance, weapons qualification, an obstacle course, among other challenges through April 26, concluding with an awards ceremony.
